Ears Don't Lie.

So yesterday Remi wakes up at 4:30 AM crying that her right ear is hurting her. Hurting! Hurting! Hurting!

I call her a "faker" and put her back in bed.

She was up again at 5:30.

She was crying at 6.

And she was in the car, dressed and ready to go to school, by 7:30.

My Mother of the Year award can be mailed directly to my reserved spot in hell. Thank you.

But I honestly thought she was faking it. I can't help it, how am I supposed to tell the difference from when she cries profusely that her right ear is hurting and when she once made herself choke on tears because Scooby Doo went to a commercial. I'm not a mind reader.

So when I picked her up from school she seemed to be perfectly fine. She wasn't mentioning the ear and heaven knows I wasn't going to bring it up. But then on about track 7 of my Celine Dion Christmas CD she starts to cry. Now, maybe I'm a music junkie, but I assume its because it's The Prayer featuring Andrea Bocelli - which, let's just state for the record is a classic and would make anyone with a pulse cry - but she suggests otherwise. She starts screaming "turn it off, turn it off, my ear, my ear!"

Should I have assumed it was her earache?
Or listening to Celine?

Because if it was Celine, then she is going to get a serious talkin' to.

A visit to the Doctor confirmed that one little ear was red and bulging and way infected. And I breathed a sigh of relief that maybe, just maybe, the antibiotics will heal her and I can once again dream about her and I attending a Celine concert together without her screaming, "My ears! My ears! My ears are bleeding!" Because I'm pretty sure that's exactly what the Attorney General said a few years ago when he took me to her concert.

~~~~~~~~~
So can we get honest here people? Who is it that you love? Sure, society shuns them - but you don't care, you love them. Just like me and Celine. I know I should be embarrassed, just like I should be embarrassed that I know every word to Islands In the Stream, but I'm not. What about you?
C'mon, fess up. It's Color Me Badd, isn't it?
So, I lost a few mom of the year points this week too. After my 6 yr old son spent most of Tuesday afternoon/evening complaining about his stomach and head hurting he went to bed and awoke seemingly ok, but saying he didn't want to go to school. But no fever means no stay home day in this here household, so off on the bus he goes. Only to get a phone call 45 min later saying he'd thrown up (all over himself) on the bus and can I please come pick him up?
I am thinking that knocked me down a few points at least.
I was extremly clumsy and Broke bones alot when I was younger.. My mom thought I just wanted to wear a cast to hit the boys at school. I walked around for 2 weeks beofre she took me to the Dr to once again have Xrays. My arm was broken and the Dr lectured her!
Kim Carnes. That's not too bad, is it? Oh, and don't feel bad about the ears. My son was home for 3 days with fever before I took him to the doctor. He didn't have any other symptoms and I didn't want him picking up even more disgusting germs from the Dr. office??!! He has an infection in his throat, strep was negative, the dr. said he had "No idea WHAT that is". He is now on a strong antibiotic.
I will humiliate myself just to make you feel better(which is pretty darn nice I'd say) My son chad fell on his bike and was complaining about his stomach hurting. I replied "well I told you to stay on the trail with mom "so you push your bike back home if it hurts too much to ride it" After a couple blocks I could see he was hurting! Turns out he bruised his spleen. I still feel bad and its 15 years later. No wonder I spoil him now to make up for all my "mommy dearest" moments! Hope your sweet baby feels better and you are excused of all guilt. Hugs
I have to side with both you and the AG.... I can handle Celine, but pretty sure about three songs in my ears are burning.
I am not a mommy, but can "score" a few points for my own mama... I was in second grade and had moved all over the room and finally up under the chalk board and STILL could not read/see the board. Yet another note went home to my mother, so she called the optomotrist, which happened to be a fabulous family friend. She told him I just wanted glasses for attention and she was sure there was nothing wrong with my eyes... after testing, he reported back that my vision, at that time, was far worse than my mama's. Yes, she had been wearing glasses 20 years.
To this day, I am blind as a bat!
Keep up the GREAT work!
I'm pretty sure I can claim 'mom of the year' ....... when my son was 12 we were standing in line at school to register. The line was going fairly slowly and my son, who is typically chipper started looking pretty bored and as each minute passed he looked more and more 'disgusted' with the waiting. Very unlike him so I lectured him about standing around looking lifeless and like 'death passed over' and I was telling him that we don't always like what we have to do but we still have to keep a good cheerful attitude and then he tells me he feels very tired so I started lecturing him about how we probably need to make his bedtime earlier and next thing I know he's down on the ground having a seizure and then he quit breathing. Luckily the school nurse was there that day but it required an ambulance and trip to ER.
Luckily he is totally fine and healthy and almost 16 and it was some freak thing but I felt SO AWFUL afterwards about lecturing him on his lifeless state.
Celine makes me want to slit my wrists, paper cut my jugular, and stab myself in the eye with a fork. I'm just sayin'.
French Onion Dip. Sour Cream + a packet of french onion soup mix.
I was shattered when Fran Drescher the Nanny suggested making it for some high-brow Sheffield party and Niles treated the suggestion with utter contempt.
I'm with anonymous but I'm NOT SCEERED... I LOVE me some Salt n Pepa....
But I also LOVE Sailing by Christopher Crosss....NOBODY loves that song...But for some reason I do, and I don't even now all the words...
You would think I live by myself with 10 cats and 14 ferns that I lovingly whisper to as I water them every night on the balcony of my apartment since I love me some white music like Christopher Cross!!
once as a child i told my mom to listen to the song i had made up. i sang her the chorus to island's in the stream. she laughed her head off. i literally didn't remember having heard it before so i was hurt she was laughing at my song. in fact now that i am telling the story, i also remember arguing with her that i had never heard the song and totally made it up. wow!
Oh I love the comment about your reserved spot in hell. I hope I'm right beside you, because hoo-ey could we have a blast!
My 15 year old was complaining about her ear the night before camp, so I told her she'd have to suck it up. Then she gets back from that camp a week later, and tells me at 10:00 at night that her ear hurts.
Well at this point she's going to be off to camp number 2 at 5:00 in the morning, and there is no way I'm taking her to a hospital in the middle of the night for an earache! So off she goes again.
When I had to pick her up six days later from that camp, I was walking toward her and I could SEE the ear infection from about 15 feet away. No joke. It was swollen shut. (That said, I'd pay some pretty fine moola if she could only contract a mouth infection and get THAT damned thing swollen shut!)
At any rate, we went to the doctor right away. lol
Errrr, RICK SPRINGFIELD! Rock On, Rick!
Also, as a frequent victim of ear infections, I give my heartfelt sympathy to Remi. I hope the meds have her feeling better very soon.
Oh, and I thought you'd appreciate this: I woke my mom up in the middle of the night after being sent to bed with earache complaints. I finally convinced her that I was NOT FAKING and we went to the ER (back in the days before the Doc in the Box on every corner). Turns out my eardrum had ruptured. Boy, did my mom feel terrible! But I still loved her. I even took her to see Johnny Mathis in concert...HER guilty pleasure. Maybe one day Remi will be dialing up the TicketMaster for a special treat for you.
Love your blog!!!
