Fat and Crabby.

Today's comment box had better be full. That's all I'm sayin'.

There were so many things I was considering posting about today: my favorite summertime treat that I love to take to grill out's even if people get sick of it and ask me to just bring paper plates...the fact that the AG is taking me out tomorrow night for something that I can barely even talk about for fear I'll drool on myself...or the fact that So You Think You Can Dance is back on and once again I truly believe that if someone would give me a chance I could do some pop and lock.

But I have decided to forgo every bit of the aforementioned items for this one thing.

Tuesday I took Remi to a Tiny Tumblers class because, and I'm gonna be honest, I cannot watch that child flip over another thing in my house without worrying that her neck is gonna snap and I'm gonna get blamed for it. So in an effort to support her decision to flip around the house and pick things up with her toes I took her to her first class. It was in this class that they did the "Crab Crawl."

A simple crab crawl; don't you remember it from elementary school? You simply crawl backwards or forwards using your hands and legs. Watch here if you don't remember.

How to Do Crab Crawl Exercises -- powered by eHow.com

Is something wrong with me?

I cannot do it.

I cannot do it.

I cannot do it.

I have tried. Over and over. But I cannot, under any circumstances, lift my rear end up off the floor. And yes, I've considered that there might be something wrong with my floor.

So on this Friday would you do me a favor? Just try it. Right now, where you are, lay out on the floor and try the crab crawl. Go ahead...I'll give you a second.

Now, see that little comment area? Let me know how it went. Don't leave me a message on how I shouldn't be so hard on myself - it's a little late for that - I currently have a three year old laughing in my face. Just give me a "yes" or a "no" okay? And just know that if the yes' outweigh the no's I will be considering drowning myself in an icebox pie later in the evening.

Is it just me or do you think the fact that I can't do a crab crawl is a pretty sure sign that I can't do pop and lock? Never say die!!!!!!!!

OMG... NO!!!!! =(

Yes but I couldn't get back up without some serious help from Princess and the ottoman. I think I pulled something that shouldn't be pulled.

Yes. I did it. Not only do I have a sense of accomplishment, but I can also tell my husband I "worked out" this morning.

Jessica said...

I can do it, though my lack of coordination means I don't move very... attractively! :P

Lois Christensen said...

I won't even try because I know I can't. My spine is completely crooked so even getting into that position would be a miracle!

Melissa said...

It's pretty much a guaratee that I can't do it. I think that move should be saved for children under 10 alone.

O:)

The bulging disk makes it a little tricky... but I can do it for a few steps. Of course, it took me a while to get up!

SYTYCD!!! whoo hoo praise Jesus it's back on and they are having a fall season too!!!

Yes but it hurts. The sad thing is last summer I took my baby girl to a tumbling class and they did the crab crawl. I remember coming home and trying it with her. I didn't however remember if I was able to do it so I had to try again today.

Big Nanny said...

Yes, yes I can! And now the Lil'Nanny is looking at me like I I've lost my mind because I'm crawling around the floor like a crab at 7:45 in the morning.

I can "sort-of" do it.

Two degenerating bones in my left wrist and a little too much "girth" make it difficult.

I could ride him - lol!

Lisa said...

Okay, first of all how that is supposed to resemble a crab is beyond me. Second of all, have you considered that Remi is alot closer to the ground?

It is amazing to me that this many of us actually got off of our computers to go and try this... man, are you persuasive of what?

But, yes. I did it. Of course I have been doing P90X (the video workout created by Satan himself) for the last three weeks so I have a slight advantage over you. Otherwise I am sure it would have been a no-go here too.

Love ya!

Kacey said...

Yes! Should my wrists be hurting like this?

Brooke said...

Absolutely not.

You should put a disclaimer on your blog... so far we have a few broken bones!!! lol

ummmm...you are not alone...I truly thought, "Of course I can crawl like a crab" but sadly I cannot. YIKES!

Do I get an exemption 'cause I'm 8 months pregnant?

Hope so... 'cause I'm pretty sure this ghetto booty wouldn't get off the floor no matter what. =)

Forget the crab crawl.... call me when the icebox pie is served!!!!!!

**For your entertainment purposes only, please know that I did get down in the floor - AT WORK - and try... do not attempt in flip flops. This did provide much joy to the guy that walked in.

Forget it. I'm not even trying.
Not because I don't believe for one minute that I can;' do it, but rather I see no reason. Honestly. What is the point? Is is going to get me into college? Or will I be asked to do this in a job interview? Forget it, you can't make me try......

so yes, I CAN do it, no I WON'T prove it.

kind of like dancing, I CAN do it.

Yes!

i can do the crab walk, but i can't deal with my 15 year old. i might just have to crab walk to a different country!

Shannon said...

I'm not even going to attempt it since I am at work. I might have to give it a shot later when I get home:)
However, I did prove to my daughter recently that I can still do a back bend. I did it, and then fell over in the floor with muscle spasms in my back. For some reason my husband found great humor in it.

Leigh said...

OK, I tried it. And yes, I managed. But...why? When on earth is THAT skill going to come in handy? Really low limbo poles? A leak in the bottom vat of Guinness? Matthew McConnaughey in face-down traction a foot off the floor?

And it looks like something Paris Hilton would do at a party, anyway.

Sheesh. I'm gonna go find an icebox pie.

Yep - does that count as my exercise for the day??

I vote no on the crab crawl.I didn't try because when he mentioned "core" I knew I had none. I was also distracted by the patch of hair on his head. He needs to take it down to the wood like Bruce Willis. See that's what happens I sit on the couch and make fun of the people who are in the videos. Like watching the red carpet in jammies and picking apart the stars dresses. I truly have a problem. Well wishing you a good day! I think I will have crab cakes for lunch and think of you

suzewearsshoes said...

Yes I can! But then again I'm only 21 so I'm not sure if that says anything about my physical fitness, or if I just have left-over flexibility from childhood.

Paige said...

I am proud to say that I just found out that I can still do the crab walk, and in HIGH HEELS no less!!

I am not proud to say that I did it while at the office. Thankfully, I didn't get caught, or my boss have some questions for me.

Wendy said...

I have to admit I didn't try it... I looked at the floor, but I didn't try it. If a personal trainer is doing the demo video for it then it's only for fit people and three year olds!

Anonymous said...

First, I have every confidence that you did this just to see how many people would get their asses on the floor and try. And I tried. I can do it - you had me scared for a minute though. However, my wrists hurt like hell and my 4yr old rolled his eyes and mumbled something about "mama's trying to hurt herself".

MBush said...

Yes I can. And, by the way, I've never seen/read/heard so many excuses from grown adults as to why thy can't or won't do something. How funny! After laughing at everyone, your core should be stronger...try again!

Samkay said...

Yes, I can do it. It was pretty funny to read why everybody else can't or why they won't try. :)

Just yesterday my son played crab crawl soccer at cub scout camp. No joke - I stood there for 20 minutes watching 25 7-yr-olds crab crawling back and forth on a gym floor while kicking a soccer ball around. My hands hurt just watching them.

But, if the scouts are doing it, I expect it to be an olympic sport soon.

Yes, I tried it, and yes, I did it until my arms and wrists caught on fire and I was forced to stop. Good news: arm workout is done for this month. :)

Ashley said...

Yep... did it! 8 months prego and did it, but now I am having a contraction so I have to go...

Funny post and funnier comments!

I got down with my four year old and we crabbed around together. I lasted longer than him. But he can do a mean bridge thanks to his gymnastics class that I can't even dream of trying.

Lock and pop? Not in my wildest dreams.

Pamela Johnson said...

Yes. I won't say anything else. I promise.
Ok, well, the next time I see you, I promise I won't say anything!
well, maybe just one tiny, itsy bitsy, joke.

Melissa said...

So no. Melissa, you know I love you. You don't need to me to crabwalk to prove that to you. I'm just gonna leave this one right where it belongs. On that instructional video with the man in the swishy pants. Thank you very much. MMMMMkay? Love you. Don't hate my non-compliance. I'm fat, crabby and sweaty. Very bad concoction.

Givinya De Elba said...

I was convinced it was going to be a "no", being 30 weeks pregnant and physically in the worst shape I've ever been in, but it's a "YES!" and I don't think I even separated my tummy muscles. Won't be trying it again anytime soon though.

ugagirl30 said...

yes...and now i can do this to target my flabby triceps and my flabby buttocks area. Thanks, crab crawl!

Faith(ful) Reader said...

Well I did it but unfortunately wasn't wearing my Depends at the time, so I had to do some mopping and laundry as a result. I hope you are happy, Melissa.

Neeki said...

Um, no, I'm not gonna try. Why? Because there's no one here right now to help me up off the floor.

Melinda said...

I have NEVER been able to do this! Not even when I was younger and considerably more limber.

But that doesn't make me a bad person.

And neither are you.

That bad Remi for laughing at you. And after all you did for her birthday. The nerve. ;0)

I can do it....for about 3 times. And not very far off the ground either.... My 3 year old put me to shame!

Maria said...

Ok, I can do it in short spurts...only because we have to do this in a Kindermusik camp! I just want to crawl in a hole on the day of camp that we talk about the crab. Ugh! It will be interesting this summer as it's the first time crab crawling since I fractured my tibia roller-skating. But I digress...on another note - LOVE SYTYCD!!! Keep poppin' & lockin'! ~M

I thought there was no way on earth I could do this, but I actually did it.... so yes. It was a pretty good workout too. I took yoga classes for about a month (once or twice a week) and then quit...I am secretly telling myself that is why I can crab crawl b/c I grew strong muscles from 4 hours of yoga.... yeah right. It was simply a miracle.

Sissy said...

I can do it, but not very gracefully at all. He made it look so easy, but mine was stunted and very halting. Yikes. I think this must mean I am out of shape, but I also think I knew that already.

Unknown said...

Yes but I seem to have a carpet burn on my.... tooshie.

Should have put on clothes first.

Sorry I'm just reading this, I thought you were still having computer woes...
I didn't even try it because I din't want to have to blame my floor. I think somethings wrong with your floor, too.
Hi-Larious!!
