Cardboard Testimonies

I first saw this 27 days ago when my dad sent it to me. (What my dad's doing on YouTube I still don't really know.)

I immediately wanted to post it for you all right then, but for some reason the time just didn't pan out...I'm sure I had other fabulous things to say. Wonderfully, hilarious, deep, analytical, fabulous things, I'm sure. Like talk about my bangs or my daughter or my ability to gain weight while I sleep.

Whatever it was I'm sure it was TOTALLY worth it.

But today I'm posting it. Because I LOVE it. And I want you to love it, too. (So if you don't - don't tell me.)

But just open your heart to it and I know it will mean something to you. And after you watch it, tell me which one was your favorite - which one meant the most to you - or stood out the most to you.

I have a favorite. And you might be surprised to know which one it is.

So enjoy! As my friend Julie said, "it is both brutally and beautifully honest."

As we all are.

Love that!

I wonder what my cardboard testimony would be.

i'll be back to let you know

That was beautiful. Wow--I got my first cry over with early today.

What a beautiful statement! I need to pray about my cardboard testimony.

My ladies SS class watched this last month--we were a rooom full of blubbering gals, crying out to God before the end of the video.

The one that brought me to my knees? "Loss of Son to Suicide--Found God's Amazing Grace!" My bf's brother killed himself the night before Libbey's birth, and I've seen God work miracles through that situation over the past 6.5 years.

My cardboard testimony is simple:
I was lost and blind--now I'm found and set free. HALLELUJAH!

I've seen this before, in fact it honestly got me to start asking questions- that and redeeming love. There's so many that I can relate to and understand. I don't know if I could choose a favorite, right off the top of my head, but here are a few.

"Shattered by my anger- restored by his love"
I also really like the one where the woman was diagnosed with MS and her neurologist was baptized and she said it was worth it. THat amazes me.

After watching this, I wondered what mine would be and I have no idea. Because I realized at the moment I only have the front and I'm working on the back. I guess I could say that I do have a back, but I don't. Not quite yet. Seeing this always sends me to tears because wow. I mean maybe there is something to this god thing you know?

I love you lots and I've been thinking about you.

Oh the tears streaming down my face. Thank you for sharing that. I think my favorite is that there were I think 3 cancer survivors, so many doctors say you won't survive cancer, God has a different plan sometimes!

If anyone is not bawling after that then they must already be dead...how powerful! We should do something like this at church sometime!

This was absolutely beautiful. I'm going to steal this from you and put it up on my blog today.

Good Morning. I watched this last month sometime and cried, of course. I had several that I loved but I think my favorite was the couple who divorced and then re-married. Whats yous??

Sherri said...

That is beautiful!!!! Thank you!!!! What a great way to start the day!!

I love this video. I want to do something similiar at our church. It's so real and I think people need to see that we are not the "facade" that we put on with our Sunday School dresses. Being real and transparent is the best witness you can give.

I saw this recently and it totally moved me. I think this is a must see for everyone.

I loved the little baby one...not suppose to make it to age 2 and was turning 3 next month...AWESOME!

Sarah Shalley said...

Wow. That was so powerful. Each message is unique. I think my favorites are the ones about being lukewarm or part time christians...only to be called by God to serve FULLTIME or to find themselves on FIRE. I can relate most to those.

Unknown said...

WOW !!! That's awesome.

Not sure which is my favourite .. they all move me..

Thankyou for posting that. Melissa..

*Hugs*

I was sent this a month or so ago as well and it is absolutely AMAZING! I too have planned to share it on my blog but haven't done it yet. Thanks for bringing it back to my attention.

I think I most relate to Sideline Christian though I could make up more of my own that were not shown.

OH HOW HE LOVES US!!!

Love that.

My favorite - volunteer, now full time staff - that's me!!! Thanks for an awesome start to the day!!

Very powerful. Thank you for sharing. I needed the reminder that even through all this, that He loves me and will love me.

Lynda said...

What a powerful video. A favorite? Everyone has a different story. I thought the older gentleman who was a Christian Pretender was touching as were the people now in the process of adoption and pregnant.

And the boy who lost his mom.

Shelley said...

Hey Melissa,

What a powerful message. Thanks for sharing.

I can defintely relate to the one girl who was shattered by her anger. Keep praying for me that I will listen to God's word and that He can affect a change in me.

I've seen this, too. I cried. Each person we see on the street has a story. Not all are God stories, but they could be.

The cardboard testimonies are so powerful. I cried as I watched each family share their despair then their triumph. God is indeed the God of wonders.

This was so moving! Thank you for posting it. I have been trying to figure out what I would put on mine. I'm not really sure yet. I have to do some more thinking on that. Which was your favorite? Mine was the woman who lost her son to suicide and then found God. That is amazing!

Anonymous said...

Girl, your blogs are changing my heart daily! I'm not one that is easily brought to tears, however I've been (in the words of the Grinch) 'leaking' morning as I read your blogs! I've gotten many good laughs out loud too!

Know that you are a Blessing to SO MANY!!!

Rhonda said...

That was beautiful. I couldn't pick out a favorite if you paid me too!

I can only fill out side of my cardboard testimony. So far. Maybe it's time to work on that.

Thank you for sharing this wonderful video.

I think we should be moved each and every time we hear stories about how God is working in people's lives. Just merely accepting Him and devoting your life to Him deserves a round of applause. This is a great video and a wonderful reminder of all the things we should celebrate. I think it is almost impossible to choose one favorite, because so many of them gripped my heart - made me smile. But if I had to choose just one off the top of my head, I would go with the neurologist. So often, we don't understand HOW it is that God can take something as tragic as MS and turn it into something good. But that's a perfect example of the kind of things He does.

I have not stopped crying! this is amazing.

Melissa,
Stop making me cry all the time!!!! :)

This was so beautiful. It's impossible for me to have a favorite because each one in its own right is such a testimony to the miracle working, amazing power of God. There is NOTHING He can't do! His love is vast, and oh, how He loves US!

Praying for you and believing....

Anonymous said...

Wow, that was pretty amazing! I have no idea what my cardboard would say....it could be a cardboard book!

I think the one that stood out to me the most was the lady with MS who said it was worth it because her neurologist got baptized!. WOW! I want people to be saved and I don't know if she and he are together, and I would do a lot to finally be with the love of my life, but saying a disease is worth it? I don't know.....she is a strong woman. Don't know if I'm that strong.

I saw this a while back also, and I cried! It really touched my heart to see how God touches other people's hearts! Here is mine:

Front:
Teenage Mom with Eating Disorder

Back:
Saved by Grace, Raising my daughter to be a Pillar of God!

That is truly amazing. My favorites are the lukewarm now on fire. I was lukewarm for so long, never raised in a Christian home, but I knew that I believed. I just never sought out the truth. Just before I got married, I started a Bible study with our church back home and was baptized about a month after the wedding. I still feel like a new Christian most days, but I am truly aflame.

Caution/Lisa said...

We saw this video in church and I loved it. Now I wish we would do the same thing. How about? Was my own. Am now His!

Sarah B. said...

I have seen this a few times before and it doesn't matter that I know what to expect....I still cry and they are tears of JOY. The amazing things that God can do with us.
I think that is a great topic of discussion though...."what would your cardboard testimony be?"
I will have to give that a thought....

Hey Melissa, I've got a little bloggy award for you over at my place. I know that you've already received this particular one.....but I can give it to whomever I want.....so I didn't care. I just wanted to let you know that you inspire me with your strength. Oh yes, you are stronger than you know!

My favorite is the one where the wife attended church 10 years without her husband but now he is the spiritual leader. My husband is an atheist and I pray for the day he will change and I won't look at other couples in church and long for what they have.

I had seen this on YouTube before, but our pastor played it in church on Sunday. I had tears streaming down my face. I had to hold back the ugly cry.

Hi Melissa,

I have a confession...I have been SECRETLY & STALKINGLY reading your blog for several weeks now and I am always so moved by your FAITH. I have ALWAYS thought you were amazingly funny & had such great wit. I had no idea what all has happened in your life since high school and reading your blog has been just what I needed in my spiritual life right now. I am praying for you and have asked others to pray for you and the AG. Also, as far as cheerleading goes not one person remembers after high school who those cheerleaders were and my picture or name is no where near that gymnasium. I should have played basketball because I would have been more likely to get my name on a banner but, who really cares about that either. I don't really know what to say to someone in your situation but I was so rooting for this baby and I can't wait to hear Elisha's story. It sounds like you have been truly blessed with a loving Godly husband and a beautiful daughter. I am convinced He has great plans for you. Love in Christ, Deanna Smith Havard

I could not post after watching this. Had to go away for a couple of days. It is one of the most powerful testamonies I have ever seen. The divorce one moved me because I have neighbors who could have been them. The cancer ones because of Kris, The MS because of my friend Susan, who never quits trusting God no matter how she feels. You know could go on and on. I could apply almose all of them to someone or to myself in some manner.
Thanks for sharing

Beautiful, beautiful. My oh my. We need so many more doses of God's transforming power. Satan would so like us to believe we are stuck and nothing works. I need to think on that a while.

Mommy Cracked sent me. I love the neurologist and the lukewarm Christians.

Oh goodness, I feel bi-polar after reading your funny posts and then watching this video and tearing up!

I loved it and am glad I watched the whole thing thru. Of course the kids ones moved me. I loved the one where they're adopting and she's pregnant.. Just beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
