Sometimes A Mom...

Sometimes when mom's come in to town...

They tell that your roots need to be done.
But then they ask you what they should do with their hair, and trust what you have to say.

They tell you that you need to dust and clean your baseboards.
But then they take care of both when your out of the room.

They say things like, "Melissa, you are acting ridiculous" or "Melissa, quit acting like that."
But then say things in private about how proud they are of you and the woman you've become.

They tell you that you eat out too much and need to save money.
So they take you out for fried green tomatoes and chocolate cake and they pay.

They can make you feel like a child all over again.
But then sit across the table at lunch and talk to you like you're their very best friend and peer.

They make dinner for you even though they gripe that "you have nothing in your pantry."
And then take you to the grocery store and spend, like, $300 to fill your fridge.

You roll your eyes at everything they say because they have no idea what they're talking about.
And sometimes you take notes.

You can't wait for them to leave.
And other times, you pray they'll stay just a little bit longer.

Yes. That is it. That is what it is like to be a grown up and have a Mom around. My mom will be living with us for several months this summer while she looks for a house and I am fully expecting this.

You have perfectly summed up me & Mama's relationship. We are best friends...90% of the time!

I do believe Nonnie & Mamaw Pinky need to meet, because they sound like kissin' cousins. 'Cept Pinky wouldn't be cleaning my baseboards...though they do need it badly. She would offer to keep the kids occupied while I did it, though.

This is so poignant...is it sad that I'm stuck on fried green tomatoes and chocolate cake?

Enjoy that closeness Melissa. I never had that with my mother, she did not come to my house to visit, except after each child was born. I was so envious of my friends that were close to their mothers. So, today I read your blog and cried. I am so happy that you have your special mom. She has always been a special lady of course. We ALL love her for one reason or another. I've made my lifetime of having no mom to talk to and going overboard on my kids. Their most favorite quote still today even after they have both been married is that they are "spoiled by MOM and proud of it!"
I love you Melissa. You bring out all the things that people really need to think about and either deal with or get over!

I popped over from The Romero Diaries... This post is amazing, I'm counting down the days until July when I'll see my mom. So precious..and then I kept reading and found the post about your mom and the speaking engagement for death row inmates, at which time I laughed so hard I almost peed on myself! Holy-freakin-kamoly! I just crawled under the computer desk and cringed for her! And then laughed inappropriately some more.

I am dying laughing because this is the exact weekend I just had. Only difference is that she took windex to my t.v. and the pains of the glass in the door that leads to my garage instead of the baseboards (that was the last visit).
She doesn't get how I get so much traffic to my site, but can't stop reading it or telling all of her friends about it.
And I know I am slowly turing into her each day that passes.

Hey there would you mind sharing which blog platform you're using? I'm going
to start my own blog soon but I'm having a tough time choosing between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal. The reason I ask is because your layout seems different then most blogs and I'm
looking for something completely unique. P.
S My apologies for being off-topic but I had to ask!
